Road to Athens
Overview
The Road to Athens, produced in association with VISA, is a series of five 30-minute documentaries which highlight the history and goals of the Team Visa athletes. Each episode features one of the members of this special team, whose trials and tribulations leading up to the 2004 Athens Olympics games, are recounted to the viewer.
The programme is narrated by the athletes themselves and by the people who play important roles in their lives. The storyline highlights their ‘extraordinary’ athletic achievements, set against the ‘ordinary’ side of their lives. It also harks back to the myth of sports-of-times-past, images of great athletes in Athens who started this epic movement in contemporary sport.
